The SRM team participated in the 2nd Ichiro Masaki Memorial EM Universal Village International Conference, held at the Bangkok Shin ryokan Summit Hall in Okinawa. Organized by EM Research Organization, Inc. in collaboration with EM Seikatsu Corporation and the United Network of Earth Environment (U-net), the conference brought together practitioners, researchers, and industry representatives from across the globe to review the current state and future direction of Effective Microorganism (EM) technology.
The program featured a series of technical presentations and case studies documenting the application of EM technology in agriculture, environmental remediation, and community-based sustainable development. Presenters shared field data and operational insights from projects spanning Japan, India, Hawai’i, and Malaysia, covering topics such as rice cultivation using EM-based salt-weeding methods, the development of Terra Preta soil systems, bioremediation applications for environmental care, and zero-waste town development initiatives. Professor Emeritus Teruo Higa of the University of the Ryukyus, founder of EM Research Organization, delivered the keynote address, in which he outlined the Universal Village concept — a framework originally proposed by the late Dr. Ichiro Masaki of MIT for developing sustainable, self-sufficient communities integrated with EM technology.
As part of the conference’s engagement program, the SRM team held technical discussions with EM practitioners and delegates from multiple countries, exchanging perspectives on implementation methodologies, project outcomes, and best practices across differing environmental and regulatory contexts. These exchanges provided valuable comparative insight into the scalability and adaptability of EM-based solutions across diverse geographies.
The conference concluded with a series of site visits on 1 December, including the UV Bio Cycle Center and the EM·X GOLD Factory, offering direct observation of EM production processes and their integration into community and agricultural systems.
